Desktop Computer

Unlike a laptop, a desktop computer is designed to be kept in a fixed location. They usually feature several independent components (keyboard, monitor, etc.) that are all connected to a central “tower”. This tower is what holds the motherboard, A/V cards, and all of the actual “computing” power of the machine.

A desktop computer can have its advantages over a laptop. For instance, desktops can often incorporate a great deal more memory than can a standard laptop. They are also often considerably more powerful as well.

For a true computer enthusiast, building a custom desktop computer is often the preferred way to go. This often includes designing the components based on what one spends the most time doing. Multiple processors, expanded memory stores, and advanced audio/visual components are all common modifications.
